xj350 reverse camera
Hi,
I'm trying to research reverse camera installs for my friends dad. He has been quoted £700 for a revering camera install in his 2005 XJ350, which sounds crazy to me. (he has the alpine system with in dash screen etc)
On my Honda, I found a guide where the camera plugs straight into the DVD and activates when powered from the reverse light. It switches over the video feed to the camera and works perfectly.
The parts costed next to nothing and was an alternative to buying a NAVtool interface to plug media into.
I have searched the web so sorry if this has been covered, but any advise would be greatly appreciated!
Here is the mod for the hondas that saves the need to buy an interface

Anything similar for xj's?
Thanks,
Eric

It is fairly simple, but there is alot of labor involved to get behind the dash and run wiring front to rear. The NAV is a 'video' source in the boot but unless you want to manually change to the NAV before using the screen, well that makes it a pain to use. So, the RGB at the rear of the screen needs to be hacked and rerouted through a switch that can automatically flip to a backup camera feed when the car is placed in reverse.
The price seems fair, it is a lot of interior to remove to get to the front console with wiring.

How about these options??
4.3 in. Wireless Back Up Camera Kit - Walmart.com
Pyle Audio 3.5" Monitor Wireless Back-Up Rearview and Night Vision Camera System - Walmart.com
7 in. Wireless Back Up Camera Kit - Walmart.com
Pyle Audio 7" Window Suction Mount TFT/LCD Video Monitor with Universal Mount Rearview Backup Color Camera - Walmart.com
And there are plenty more ...both wired and wireless

I picked up a nice little system for my wife's minivan for about $250 and ended up returning it as she didn't want the extra screen on her dash. Currently, her dash does not have an LCD, it has the basic black n gray displays or I would have tapped into the dash screens. Her DVD player is for rear entertainment only so as not to distract the driver with a movie while driving. lol It does have Red, White, & yellow component video out on the DVD head unit, but I feel the temptation to look too often would e too great for the driver.
I am going to look into this as well for my 05 XJR as I'd like to have it. I don't have a good reason other than, "I want it". I'll post my search results and would appreciate the same if anyone comes up with more options. Thanks!

Thank you for the contributions and the links/information.
I joined the uk forum also and made contact with a chap who quoted £90 for parts including the camera. I have a local mechanic who can handle the installation.
This seems far more reasonable that the initial quote provided.
Cheers folks
