Xj8L 1998 neutral saftey switch issues.
Hello all! Ive had this beautiful car for close to 19 years, have been through a range of issues, (3 engines and a transmission amongst just a few) though this one has me dumbfounded. About a two weeks ago started have the car not start in park. Put car in neutral and it started. No codes no check engine no indicators.
started to think prehapse battery, starter or alternator. So took it up to auto zone and the ran test all 3 were good. I have a computer again no codes. From reading forums realized possible neutral saftey switch issues. So bought a rebuilt unit online, the switch looks brand new. From watching YouTube videos I was lead to belive the part was looked on back side of shifter. I took the car apart amazingly only took about 30 minutes.
I could not locate the neutral satey switch. LJA6201AD part number. Ill include pic of part, which I still belive attaches to the shifter. After reading more online I ran the throw the gears and boom got a transmission fault and check engine light. Ran code and it said neutral saftey switch.
seems im on the right track. Now can anyone tell me where the switch is located. Read online on a non jag forum its located on top left side of transmission. I only took apart half the shifter and realized I might be in over my head. Though after looking at a removed shifter I am starting to think its located on rear of shifter, though dont want to cuase further damage taking it apart. Ive also noticed the shifter lights work intermittently, park sometimes does light up, and when I run gears p through 3rd on manual sports mode notice lights go out on park and 2 gear. This also re pulls fualt codes check engine transmission.
anyone that can tell me where this part goes thank you, also becuase of the lights engaging intermittently is it the shifter its self?
thank you any help is appreciated!
Best regards to all and please help!
