Default XJ8L - Changing Air Con default status

On my 2007 XJ8L, the A/C defaults to being ON with engine start.
Is there a way to change this to defaulting to OFF?

Thanks

Don't know about non-navigation cars, but in nav-equipped/touchscreen cars, hit the "climate" button to the left of the screen, then touch the "AC button" to turn it off/on (on = red box around the 'button"). Hitting the "Auto" button on the main button cluster will turn the compressor back on, as well.

My 2007, no touch-screen, remembers the last state. If it was off at shutdown, it's off at next startup. I never use the "Auto" setting.

Same as previous replies, my car always remembers the last state of the HVAC controls. Exception is if the battery has been disconnected for a long time. It's possible your HVAC unit is losing its Keep Alive Memory... The schematics show 2 ignition switched powers and no constant power to HVAC module, so it seems like your module may be faulty internally.

Correction to my post: On mine, it does return to AC on if the interior has warmed up from being out in the sun, even if it's not on Auto. It probably compares the temperature set as desired temp with what it sees on power-up.

Mine is always defaulting to ON regardless of last state or current ambient temperature.
