Default XJR Transmission problem

Hi there everyone. I have a 20006 XJR 4.26 supercharged. I'm confused as to what transmission is in this vehicle. I've been having problems with it not shifting smoothly slipping a bit etc. Recently change the tranny fluid to see if that would help. It did not.

Took it to my local tranny guy and Numerous codes came up. He says it needs a rebuild but until he removes it looks like it doesn't know what parts are salvageable and which are not

My thoughts were to either get a used one or get a complete rebuild kit but I don't know who to buy the rebuild kit from that would be reliable
Dealers themselves are too expensive.

My question is, if you know a lot about these Trannies and could respond, what's my best course of action if I can't find a used one and need to rebuild?

Numerous codes? I am not as well versed as others on this forum. But before you spend a lot of money, I would post all the codes here so others may advise.
It is possible that an engine misfire, coil pack , bad battery or some other unrelated problem might be causing the transmission fault .
If you find that you strongly suspect the transmission, you might want to consider a rebuilt valve body before committing to a complete overhaul to see if that corrects the problem.

With it being the 20006 model you probably have a blockage in the flux capacitor. Invert the taychon field should allow the dilithium matrix to re-crystallise and you should then be able to generate a stable subspace field and you will be away. Simples.

A less silly reply now. Did you use the correct fluid in the tyranny? Did you follow the correct refill procedure? There are several rubber seals in the tyranny that may be leaking. It could be sticking valves in the tyranny. Try and get the codes as it will help.

The X350/358 4.2 NA and SC are equiped with ZF 6HP26 trannys. When you change the oil it is recommended to change the filter too and then you know that. There are ZF service kits available with oil pan and integrated filter and 7 litres of ZF Lifeguard transmission oil.

If you do the oil change you have to follow certain procedures, among other things, the transmission oil has be in a certain temperature window, the transmission must be shifted in different gears, etc..

If you do so, the oil pan is removed anyway, you can also change a few seals on the mechatronics.

You didn't mention the mileage of the transmission but I don't think it needs to be replaced.

Fritz

Do you or can you do your own repairs. My suggestion will require removing the valve body

I also talked to a friend of mine (Ex mechanic and Jag lover ) who said similar and suggested trying Lucas Transmission fix + filter change to try first before doing anything major.

You should find the codes from the trans shop first before you try any 'fix it' in a bottle. Although if the other option is to replace the trans then it can't hurt to try it.

To answer your question about what to do; depends on how much you want to spend and how much the car matters to you. You could probably have an used one shipped from a different location. Probably a few hundred dollars for freight shipping. I have always seen these people say these trans are reliable. So a low mileage used would probably be fine. Otherwise what is the cost for a rebuild?

Do you know if the fluid is burnt or badly discolored. Removing the fluid and filter pan can reveal a lot
