Default 1995 XJ6 shut off this morning, battery meter fluctuates...HELP!

So I get up and take the kids to school this morning. We stop at a stop sign and the car just quietly shuts off. No engine sputter or anything. The battery needle was fluctuating and would drop and rise. I took it to Auto Zone and had the battery checked and they said it was fine. Now the check engine light is on and won't go off. Any help would be great. I am a first time owner and neither my husband or I know all that much about Jaguars.

The battery guage does fluctuates on an xj6 depending on electrical load and state of charge. The light check engine light is for stalling, and hopefully why also. You need to have codes pulled at the autoparts store that checked the battery

I asked them to hook it up to the machine and they said it's a 1995 and they couldn't. IS there anywhere else that could look at it for me without having to take it to a jaguar dealer or repair shop?

They can, 1995 Jaguars are OBDII, which meens they can scan it. Domestics cant be done till 1996. You can also have the cars state inspection done if they tell the state machine its a 96, it will read it. Take it back over there and tell em to scan it, the OBDII connector is under the drivers side dash next to the console by your right knee

Default Thanks for the tip

Brutal, thanks fo the tip I am also a fairly new owner, i have a 95 xj6 for about a year now, and coincidentally yesterday i started it up it and it died like it might have been flooded and has not started since. I checked all the fuses, it turnsover fine, I can hear the fuel pump so I also went to auto zone and shucks for a code reader only to be told the same thing. I pulled one plug to see if i could see it arc off the side of the moter there appears to be no spark. I am usually preety good with cars but don't know much about the Jag, except i dig driving it. any advice above what you have alredy posted would be greatly appreciated.

If this helps anyone I took my xj56 into the shop after trying everything i knew. It turned out to be the crank position sensor was the reason for no spark. Diagnostics, part and repair cost me $365 I looked the part up on the web it was $159 so as much of a bunner as it was to have to pay someone else it didn't seem too outrageous.

Default it continues

the shop replaced the crank sensor and it still doesn't start. now they say it is the ecu which is $4000 new or $1200 used. I searched the net myself and found a place called ecm depot in texas that will rebuild mine for $495 with life time warrentee or a used one in the local junk yard for $100. I called the shop back and they claim they are not plug and play and must be programed to my car. Does anyone know if this is correct, i'm starting to feel like i'm being taken.
