Default 1997 xj6 vdp driver seat removal

Hi There FROM NYC,
Can someone describe a procedure to either fully remove the drivers seat, or perhaps tilt it so that I can get to the module and also look for cut wires? Please include what screwdrivers or sockets to use and their sizes.

My seat is possessed. It moves all directions at random times. If it moves too far forward, I can't get behind the wheel.

Thanks,

Ted

On the driver's door master controller, I had the connector socket lock bar on the controller loose allowing the sockets on the connector from making contact , but is a job to get to

Mine had to do with windows

In your seat , an immediate solution would be to maybe turn the very small knob on the left side of steering collum to off , or fuse pulling

When you normally remove ignition key from key barrel there is a linier switch from pin 4 to 5 that makes to move the seat back to ease in exiting the car and you can lub the key barrel in certain ways like graphite spray to free up switch ( but it is a dripping mess )

The VDP should have the memory return to seats ( the 3 small round 1 , 2, 3 buttons on driver door master controller ) , but I can be wrong

You can experiment with removing and inserting key to see a correlation , if there , this with small knob steering collum in auto position

You will have 2 knobs on the steering collum . the larger is for steering collum manual adjustment

The smaller will be marked as Auto and Off

Doublechecking to be correct as the Auto and Off position may be on the larger round knob

No tools needed

To take the seat out you will need a good T50 bit (better to punch it into the bolt head before you try breaking them). To remove the covers on rear bolts you need to remove the clips with philips screwdriver and something to pry. Also 17mm wrench or socket to disconnect the seatbelt. As to the problem than most likely you have the same problem that i've had and it is pretty common issue as. I mean those seat memory potentiometers. Their drive couplings breaks so the memory function fails because of improper reading.
Mr @Parker 7 was so kind to bring a bulletin on a service procedure
http://www.jagrepair.com/images/TSB/...ntiometers.pdf
and Mr @nileseh have a replacement solution for sale
https://www.ebay.com/itm/145995263842
so i've had no problem to restore the seat memory function and auto exit option as far. Just follow the bulletin (especially in what position you need to set the seat before disconnect to proper adjust the potentiometers after repair).

Your memory seats are here on page 120 , NAS = North American Specification

Basically , there are 2 wires to the motors , and they switch + and - polarities to change direction of travel

Let me correlate that with TSB readings / table

The table is for the position sensors ( and not power drive wire commands ) but verifies the sensors are correct

Your driver seat controller pin map will be on page 26

This pin map will be looking at the module side of the connector , so mirror view on seat side of connector

To electrically move the seats positions and verify sensors have no open spots on the wipers you can use a 9 volt battery and maybe it has enough horsepower to move

An example is the headreast :

SM6 - 14D positive and SM6 - 15 D negative , this will lower the headrest

SM6 -14D negative and SMD - 15D positive , and this will raise headrest

Your headrest sensor change will be on pins X and Y

Something not matching ( on paper ) so stand by
