Default '95 3.2L X300 Engine cuts out

Hi Guys, posted in X300 forum but no replies so will try here.
When driving along, engine cuts out for a second, usually get "check engine", but recovers instantly with a bit of throttle applied. Has also cut out under acceleration, and often at idle.
Only 1 x code found...1621 not relevant apparently.
So far, have new mafs, new fuel filter, cleaned throttle body, cleaned coolant sensor, cleaned all electrical connectors including earths and ECU in rh footwell, and had battery checked aok.
checked fuel pressure, a couple of pounds light (around 38lb from memory)
Where next?
Just tried her again, and cutting out now at idle with just battery light on..no check engine.
Any suggestions will be gratefully accepted.
Thanks,
Phil

Phil, I had some of the same symptoms with my 95x300. Turned out to be very simple---maybe you have checked this already. On either side of you engine compartment--under the bonnet--against the firewall--towards the top---there are rather large terminals--hot ones--if they are loose or corroded you can get an engine cut out. Mine would stall and throw different lights up on the dash. Member sparkenzap was a champ and led me to this solution---not a problem since I cleaned and tightened the terminals---good luck--when they run they are the best, when they don't they are still the best except your pissed off!!

Hi Scott,
yes I have checked these. Saw your post and checked them out, but firm, and clean.
Have just finished working thru all the relays, cleaning the contacts, and swapped the one for ecu with aircon (same part #). I thought it was sorted, but still stuttering at idle. Now it seems to catch itself just before it stalls. Each thing I try seems to modify the behaviour slightly, but still similar symptoms.
I have noticed that ammeter shows 14.5 V which seems a tad high..drops back to 14 if lights or aircon turned on. Is this normal, or a clue to something?
Help someone?
Cheers,
Phil

Hi Phil,
Thought I had answered this earlier, I have a 97 3.2 X300 which suffered the same problem which turned out to be the "crank dwell angle sensor", take it to your local Jagtech whom should be able to tell in minutes!, mine was away overnight but I am sure could have been sorted quickly if they had not been busy!!
Best of luck

Hi Phil,
You had mentioned ammeter showing 14.5V and yes, this would be a normal output for a properly functioning alternator.

In the list of things you have done, I notice no mention of plugs or coils being checked. I'd be surprised if it were as simple as that, but probably worth a look if you haven't already.

Hope you get it sorted out soon!
Bob

thanks for your responses...I was beginning to think that no body cares.
I have a new fuel pump going in in a few days.
If that fails to fix the problem I'll have the dwell angle checked. Is this a dealer only fix?
Archibald & Shorter prices scare the daylights out of me, but I suppose it would have been cheaper than all the new bits I have put into her of late ( although some of their prices on parts are 3x what I have paid over the net)
Hardest part of the whole saga is not getting any codes to work with!

Hi Bob,
I put all new coils in about 18 months ago, and she got new plugs with a service not long before this drama started.
Have spoken with the mechanic regarding brand and type of plugs (referring to a few posts here re- same subject) but he insists that they are fine)
I am tempted to buy another set and fit them myself just to double check!!! Will do if he doesn't sort it soon!
Cheers,
Phil

Problem finally solved!!!
I have just removed the NKG spark plugs the mechanic installed 6 weeks or so ago and replaced them with the Champion RC9YC plugs recommended by Oubada in another thread.
She now runs as sweet as she ever did!
Simple fixes are the best!!!
My mechanic is not going to believe me tomorrow
Thanks all for your help and suggestions.
Phil
