Default '95 X300 Trunk/boot lid won't open

Starting a new thread for this since my symptoms are slightly different.

Anyway, the exterior boot lid push button (cat face) and the internal boot lid release button stopped working sometime between last night and this morning. When I push the buttons, instead of hearing an electronic sound of some kind, there is silence and no response.

I did manage to get the boot open with a spritz of WD40 and a fair bit of wrangling with the key (pushing down on the lid at the same time) so now I'm trying to work the problem.

I'm thinking it's either a fuse, a relay or the wiring. The wiring looks fine from what I can see (there's a lot I can't see so it could still be wiring) but I'm thinking I'd like to check fuses and such first.

My question is: What fuse/location controls the boot lid opener button?

Thanks in advance,
Rhett

The boot (or 'trunk') switch connects pin CA19-20 on the Security and Locking Control Module to ground.

The SLCM is powered through boot fuse 4 (10A) but if that had gone, I imagine all of the door locks would be dead.

My guess would be a faulty switch. Does the switch on the dash still open the boot?

Checkthe wiring at the hinge. Can't remember so you'll have to do a search - left or right side boot hinge is famous for chaffed wiring

No, it doesn't. That's what I meant by "internal switch". They both worked yesterday, they both *don't* work today.

Default Boot Latch Relay

Hey fellas,

Below is the trunk fuse/relay box.

Your boot latch relay is the middle relay, half size, black with purple stripe. Your other relays may be blue. From left to right: Heated rear window, Accessory socket, Boot latch, Fuel pump, High mounted stop lamp. Photo courtesy of Adam.

Chafed/broken wires along right trunk hinge cause all sorts of problems, so check them out.

Also don't be concerned if the accessory socket is empty of relay as in this photo. It usually is.

Turns out the wires were shorting inside the perfect-looking insulation. Two new wires later and it's all mended.

Thanks!
