Check the fuse for the fuel pump. Also turn the key on and have someone listen at the back of the car for the fuel pump working briefly. I think it shuts off after pressure is built up. I don't have a XJ6 anymore but maybe someone can tell you if there is a valve on the fuel rail to check fuel flow.

Check the crank position sensor as well.

I suppose the next step would be to through a manual gauge on to see what kind of fuel pressure you're running.

you might be loosing fuel flow.. the hose off the pump tends to fall off.. or just be slightly coming off .. and create long cranking

Is there a relay for the fuel pump that may fail. I am finding myself with the same problem. Went to start the car today and no joy. Seems I have spark, but need to check for fuel. I will also look for the crank sensor. What should I look for besides a connector/ Anything?

the fuel pump will come on for 3 seconds only , this " charges " the fuel lines and not a priming of the cylinders . Hold foot off pedal as pumping the pedal does nothing . Holding the pedal to floor will cut off the injectors by design

The fuel pump will come back on when the CKPS sees engine rotation , safety design

This holding to floor is one way to re establish the oil film on the cylinder walls , this is the walls get into a bore wash condition which does happen

The fuel pump can be powered on by jumping the socket 3 ( Hot at all times battery ) to 5 ( pump motor )

This will drain battery with keys in pocket , this is also a stranded on side of road tool to keep in trunk

BEST MEDIUM GAUGE WIRE WITH BLADE TYPE WIRE END FOR BEST CONCUCTITY
