96 X300 Fluid Leaks
Being an X300 addict one is never enough so I just bought a second 96 Vander Plas this one had 41K miles and clean as the day it came off the dealers floor and I could not help myself.
I know that with a car that is this old that has been used so infrequently there is a good chance of fluid leaks due to the gaskets drying out.
Does anyone know a way to rehydrate the gaskets or anything that I can do to minimize the chance of leaks
Thx
Alan

Not too many gaskets as such on the AJ16, mostly RTV sealed.
There are many "snake oil" remedies out there, I dont use them.
I get good results with FRESH fluids ALL round. I call it a major/major service. I do this with any car I purchase as I trust NO ONE.
When I say ALL round I mean EVERY fluid, engine oil, trans fluid, diff oil, brake fluid, P/Steer fluid, coolant.
Then grease those 4 points on the half shafts that have probably never been touched.

I bought a '95 in late Aug. with 63K on it. 78,000 now and no leaks anywhere. It did have a fresh set of pwr strng hoses installed a couple of years ago.
(Wish I had 2 of them as well!....in lieu of (2) S-types, if I'd be honest....)
I'd say "Just drive it." If a leak springs up, address it then. Otherwise, I think you are "practicing bleeding"

I have driven the jag for 70 miles and 140 miles yesterday and NO LEAKS
I changed to oil to royal purple and on Monday I will do the same to the trans and differential ( I had them fill 4 grease fittings on the rear 1/2 shafts) The X300 now has 41,800 miles on it
Thx

Ah, confidence with a capital "J".
When I spied my X300 in the other corner of Australia to where I habitate, we flew one way to said "corner", did the deal, checked all and sundry, and of course the old saying about "ducks" applied, "If it looks like a Jaguar, sounds like a Jaguar, probably IS a Jaguar", hahaha,
Car passed the basic test above, shut the bonnet, and drove 3500kms home.
NOTHING happened on the trip, how boring, but how nice, coz I only had the tools as supplied by Jaguar to fix whatever happened.
Enjoy the experience.
