Default 96 xj6 ECM

Moore Jaguar in St Louis Mo said I need new ECM 5500 dollars ouch! What are my Options? Also they said they need to diagnos further when ECM is installed could be more wrong.Car was running fine sometimes and not others. was hearing a clicking noise also down by passenger floorboard, and noticed transmission sport mode light going on and off in sync with clicking noise. This car looks and runs like new when running right.Hate to get rid of it. If some one has some ideas of options i would appreciate it. Thanks to ALL.

You can probably find a good used ECM for $100-$200 or so. Check Ebay or Motorcars Ltd or Coventry West. Or perhaps Modulemasters (I may not have that name exactly right) can repair your existing one?

Spending $5500 is silly, and doubly so when, apparently, they're not even sure if it'll fix the problem.

If the dealer isn't willing to work with you on less expensive options then you might wanna find a more flexible shop.

Cheers
DD

I agree with Doug. Swapping an ECM is not terribly difficult and $5500 is outrageous when there could be more wrong. That sounds like they are only trying to milk you for as much money as they can get out of you. Not intending to ruffle any ones feathers that may be in the business that reads this but service departments make up a big portion of the profit at dealerships and are notorius for doing just that getting as much money out of you as possible. I would find another reputable Jaguar repair shopin your area and get another opinion before spending that kind of money. Good luck!!!

I have one in a '94 XJ6 VDP with a 4.0 that I would be happy to pull out for you and send to you for $75 if you are interested. That price would include shipping charges.

Terribly Sorry!!! You are absolutely correct it is a '95 model and not a '94. Guess my finger drifted west and hit the 4 button. I will try to not make the goof again but no guarantees.

Give these folks a jingle and give them the part number of your ECM. We had one of our owners send their XK8 ECM to them and they fixed it right up, around $400.00.

Send your ECM to ECM depot in Texas and have them redo it for $750 as I did when I had a leaky windscreen dripping onto my ECM on my '95 X-300.
