Default 96XJR steering rack leak ...can I rebuild it?

The steering rack leaks from the steering shaft going into the top of the rack, I can't find any rebuild kits, has anyone out there successfully rebuilt one? the inner tie rod seals appear to be fine, it's just leaking at the top. thanks Mike

I would look for a used part, they don't leak often so you should be safe with a salvage part.

Never tried it so I'm talkin' outta my hat, but......

Many many years on automotive discussion forums suggests that DIY rack repairs/reseals/overhauls usually end up with the DIYer wishing he had just bought a rebuilt steering rack.

Others will chime in

Cheers

And you will spend more than that on the special tools you will need to build the rack- seal installers, sizers ect.
