Default 97 XJ6 differential

It's time for a new differential in the Old Cat. Anybody have any tips / guidance / pictures, etc to help me get the job done? I do have a mechanic cousin with a lift & tools, but he's never changed a diff on a Jag. Thanks!
Jim

If it is not obvious, the diff comes out with the subframe. The literature makes a big deal about marking the jurid coupling orientation so it can be replaced the same. Other than that, I don't remember much about mine, so it must not have been too tramatic! Have you downloaded the JTIS manuals from the sticky? It should have a pretty good procedure. Or, spend the modest fee for ALLDATADIY.COM

Hi Jim,

Replacing the diff is not too bad and can be done in several hours, depending on whether you decide to also replace the wheel bearings (it's easy so you might as well while you have the axles out). If you're installing a rebuilt diff it's straightforward. If you're installing a used diff, you may want to replace the output shaft bearings and possibly the pinion oil seal. Below are links to photos of some of these jobs on our '93 XJ40, which is very similar to both the X300 and X308.

Cheers, Don
