Many contact cleaners also contain a lubricant and if this gets into the belt drives and idlers in a tape deck then there will be problems further down the road. In most cases the lubricant can never be successfully removed and replacement of the contaminated components is the only answer. If you are going to do this make sure that your cleaner does not contain any lubricant.
