Default Accelerator sticking and gear shift not releasing

My accelerator is becoming difficult to press occasionally. This is a bigger problem with the first few presses after starting the car. When on the highway, it seems to kick the car out of cruise control periodically.

Also, the gear shift occasionally will not release when I press the brake. I can audibly hear a click when it does release, but sometimes have to press the brake multiple times before hearing it and being allowed to shift.

My feeling is that these may be cleaning issues, but I fear it may be more. If it is a cleaning issue, what should be cleaned? If it's more, please be gentle and break the news softly.

The fix here might be as easy as cleaning the throttle body. I'd start with that, at least.

Mine did the same thing: no click, no release. A few jabs of the brake pedal would bring it back to life. It was the brake light switch. A little fussy to replace but perfectly DIYable.

The switch itself was about $50 or so, as I recall. What galled me was another $50-60 for the required adapter harness...required becuase the new switches are an updated design. It really wouldn't take much too adapt the old harness to the new switch, I reckon, but for reasons I can't quite remember I just bought the new harness...which amounts to about $2.50 in raw materials.

Cheers
DD

Also, on the gear selector not releasing----there is a neutral safety switch which can also be problematic in reference to changing out of park. Mine will do this in the morning every now and then, but not enough to worry me. It might be something to take into consideration. Good luck!-----------------Scott

Did some cleaning around the throttle. There is definite buildup there. Fairly certain that is the problem. I'll have a go at the brake light switch. Here's hoping it's not the neutral safety switch. Thanks for the help and input.
