Default Airbag for 95 X300

I went through the "Air Bag Diagnostics for Dummies" by Brendan McPhillips and it says my Passenger side air bag (code 35) needs replacement. I verified the fault code with my mechanic also. The dealer wants $2300 for a new one and it may not be available. Does anyone know where to get a remanufactured unit. My last resort is get a used one (with no guarantees, as these units are 20+ years old) or just pull the SRS bulb.

I saw some document similar to what you are talking about but I believe it was a different author . Can you link me to it . In the end of the electronic package produces a electrical firing charge to fire off the explosive squib that ruptures a diaphragm that opens up a path for the compressed working gas to flow to say emergency escape slides or engine fire extinguisher bottles on airliners . Over seat drop down passenger emergency oxygen works in the same manor but the gas ( O2 ) is generated by a chemical reaction . We would periodically test the squibs as required by the FAA every so many hours of service . You would put a resistor in series with the squib and a meter and check for continuity . This keeps the electrical current down so you don't blow the squib but just enough to see if it is an open circuit ( bad ) . As an application in this airbag case the electronic package may be doing the same . You may be able to replace just the portion of the airbag firing squib without doing the test ( to verify specifically that it is bad ) . My airbags were blown by the previous owner so I will look at the unit as they are removed .

Bottom line , you may be able to replace the squib only and do the test as described in the document as I didn't read through it as I saw it .

Mine needs a whole unit as the bag was cut away and plan on getting a used one from a donor car

Removed gas generator from airbag unit . Mine is blown so markings burnt off . Not hard to remove and replace generator . Pics and measurements later and maybe be able to source one outside the airbag mafia . The unit is from TRW # P3- 13 - SS - X300 . Jaguar # HNA 9670 BA . The Chiefs are on

Default SRS Air Bag

Thanks Lady Penelope. I didn't know Air bags can be sold thru ebay, much less mailed to your door.

By law they can't be shipped by air and labeled as a dangerous good and a shorting pin inserted into the firing connector

Default SRS Air Bag

Yes, I did get the one in Riverside. I have used him before. I didn't think that they salvage air bags. Once again thanks for all your help.
