Default Any X300 (XJR6) owners deleted their exhaust back-boxes?

Just wondering if anyone had tried this mod and what to expect when done?

Am considering it to help my XJR6 breathe a little better. But don't want it to be too loud. Thanks.

i tried without the rearmost mufflers and it sounded horrible - very loud and droning at all speeds.

Now i have some smaller then stock "straight through" mufflers and it sounds better - i also replaced my over axle mufflers with some stainless ones but they sound pretty much the same as the stock ones.

Agree - very droning and loud on accelerating with back box delete.

How about a True X box exchanger from Flowmaster?

I think I'll give it a go. If I keep my rear boxes and don't like the delete I can always put them back again.

if you really want an incredibly droning and awful sounding exhaust go ahead, but you have been warned

I've been a passenger in an XJR6 with one rear silencer replaced with a straight through pipe. It sounded absolutely dreadful. I can't imagine travelling any real distance in an XJR with both rear silencers replaced with straight through pipes. I can't advise strongly enough that you don't do it. As bjarntev says, "You have been warned". BTW, the performance benefit will be negligible, unless you sped a lot of time with the engine at wide open throttle above 5000rpm. Even then, the benefit is likely to be less than 5bhp.
