I have been keeping an eye on it but so far the issue has not reappeared, and voltage has been full upon start-up since it started working.

Only thing I noticed during install of the new alternator is there was dialectric grease on the plug, which I left alone so it could continue to insulate the connections as I didn't have any on-hand to replace it. Some of it may've ended up pushed into the contacts creating an insulation where one isn't wanted, since dialectric grease is non-conductive. I just went out and started the car, it's maybe 30 degrees out and it hasn't been ran in about 16 hours so stone cold, and the voltage popped right up as soon as I started the car. The only noises that have come from the belt area at all since doing the work is a very slight squeak from the power steering/a/c belt which needs tightened up a bit more. I do not have one of those tension checking tools so it's all by guess-work.

I understand that the alternator doesn't need a wake up period, I was half-joking, and mainly just happy that it's working.

Well, my 1996 XJ6 got to see it's first real drive today after nearly 4 years of neglect! For the most part it was a very good run, the engine and transmission performed phenomenally, voltage stayed up, lights worked, temp stayed at N, etc. It was initially a little reluctant to charge, with squealing during applied throttle, but subsided after the car warmed up so I went ahead and took it out.

When I returned home after about a 15 Mile drive I checked the belts, which seemed a bit loose. I was cautious about over tightening per advise read on this forim, and the belts stretched a little I'm sure. Today is also grey and rainy which can affect the belts as well. I re-tensioned the belts, and made the advised marks across the crank pulley. After this I took the car out again for another 10 mile run, and there was no squealing, varying voltage, or any issues of the sort. To my satisfaction when I got home, I checked said marks, and they were all perfectly aligned.
