best OBDII scanner for x300
From what I understand, and I cannot quote the source, blinking transmission light is bad. I think you’ll want to take it over to a transmission specialist, or better yet, a Jaguar specialist, if you have one near you.
That doesn’t explain why you’re not pulling a code, but I’m also surprised your car isn’t driving in safe mode, where the transmission stays locked in third gear.
Im assuming you know the correct fluid is in there and it’s at the right level. That’s about the only troubleshooting you can do.
Draining the pan only removes 4.5 quarts, but that should at least get you back to a good level. You might simply just be low on fluid?

Thanks. The only source I can find that explains a flashing trans light is the old trans ecu which has been replaced in my car. There is no other reference that I can find that says what this means? Fluid level is spot on and new fluid added recently. I’ve had the trans ecu of of car and even swapped with old one and then back to new one? Checked and cleaned rotary connection Plug to trans itself and all looked good. Trans is definitely running fine all changes smooth and all gears being used. Seems like the light does not mean anything just annoying really. May well have to go to trans expert. Only other thing i can think of doing myself is change trans filter maybe.
If you do that… you could consider swapping out the transmission valve body…but you’re throwing parts at it.
I seriously doubt that it’s gonna be the filter.
Flashing lights should mean something more serious than a steady light. I would take the car to a transmission shop. I really think that’s gonna be the best thing for you to do.

It does not work on 1996 X300 Vanden Plas. I just purchased one and I am returning it Tuesday September 30, 2025 to the manufacturer after their tech department tried with me for one hour to get it to read the vehicle.
