Default X300?

Sorry, as an absolute beginner, what does the Term X300 refer to? I thought it to be all 6 or V12 models from 1994 to 97?
My car is Daimler 6 4.00 1995, which I think is covered by the term X300.
Does that mean all X300 parts will fit?
Are they all the same wheelbase.
What constitutes A LWB.?
Sorry to be a bit thick on this.

I don't know all the nuances, but I think your notion of XJ6 and XJ12 '94 to '97 is about right. There are 2 wheelbases, LWB being somewhat longer with the extra length used in the rear door and seat area. Mine is a X300 XJ12, not VDP, but LWB. I'm not sure if the LWB was available in the XJ6, but it was not confined to the VDP trim package. I think it was intended for a chauffeured car (the chauffeur did not come with the car and I've not found a suitable candidate) as the front passenger seat has position adjustment buttons on the seat back to be available to the right rear seat passenger. That is in the LHD configuration.
The predecessor was the XJ40 model, also available XJ6 and XJ12, but I think closer to the previous Series 3 model. The 6.0 liter engine was introduced to the sedan line in the XJ40. I have a new crate engine intended for the XJ40, but it may make it into my 1974 E-Type eventually. The successor was the X308, and I think by then the V12 was dropped in favor of the V8 in the XJ8. However the body was mostly like the X300.
This is all anecdotal, so anyone feel free to correct or add as necessary.

X300 was the internal project code for the new sedan to replace the previous car introduced in 1986/87. However, there are a number of sub codes that refer to variants, such as the V12 powered cars are X305, the supercharged XJR is X306 and the long wheelbase stretch introduced in 1996 was called X330.

However, the whole series of cars is often generically called X300.

Other way round.

The XJ40 and X300 are almost siblings. The Series 3 is like a third cousin twice removed

I see. That makes more sense. The Series car platform was a bit old by the time the XJ40 came along. Now I also find that I've been watching the wrong forum. My X300 '96 XJ12 is actually a X305 which has it's own forum.. I guess I have to sheepishly leave the room about now. But one more thing..... If a XJ12 is X305, and LWB is X330, is a XJ12 LWB X335?

X300 is a facelifted body shape which was pushed out the door before the V8 was ready. X308 cars are a facelift of a facelift

X304 = 6

X305 = V12

X306 = XJR6

X308 = V8

Ok thanks, but now I’m confused with SWB and LWB. My Daimler 6 is supposed to be 502cm in length, does that make it SWB? I’ve also seen it listed as 512cm. Would that be the LWB? I gather the extra length went into the rear legroom and door?

Put your front seat all the way back, now sit behind it. If you feel cramped then it’s a SWB, if you can sit comfortably then it’s a LWB lol
Or just look on the passenger seat. Does it have a button that can be reached from the rear seat that moves it back and forward? If it doesn’t then it’s SWB, but if it does then it’s LWB!

All 1995 cars were SWB. the LWB version was available from 1996 onward. Some, like the XJR were always SWB.

Yes, 502cm is SWB. The extra 4 inches of length all went into the rear doors, and the roofline was raised at the rear as well.
