The Boot Lid Finisher (item 2) is secured with 2 Spire Nuts (item 6). The Release Button (item 7) is secured with 2 Thread forming Screws (item 8):

You'll have to remove the lid liner trim fixings with a trim tool to get to these fixings:

I had to secure my boot trim and from memory there were at lest 4 of those star nuts. They tended to be a bit rusty, as rain can get in behind the actual trim, despite there being a rubber gasket in place. The star nuts simply affix to little plastic/nylon pegs and if the peg can shear off quite easily. One of mine sheared off, but as they are hollow, a little superglue with a matchstick acting as a kind of splint, did the job. They are a bit awkward to get at too, as they are inside the cavity of the boot lid.

The boot release button can act up due to water ingress also, so take a look see while you're there, although the two fixing screws are probably rusted in place!

Yeah, and the trunk/boot lid electric button is really not made for that environment.

It can and does get wet and the electrical switch and mounting gets rusty. I'm surprised those buttons don't fail more than they do.... and they do

It's not a very good design, but I guess it is adequate as they all don't fail.
