Default Boot, Trunk Release

Hi All, Sorry if this has been extensively covered, But my Growler button for the Boot/Trunk release isn't working. Both the Key Fob and the Dash button still work. Does this give an indication of where exactly the problem is?
As the dash and key fob still open it, I m assuming this isn't a wiring problem ie the loom at the rear of boot/trunk.
Thank you In advance.

I’m afraid it IS a wiring problem with the loom. The problem will be on the right hand boot hinge, were the wires have to bend. They break at this point. It’s an easy fix with a soldering iron and a bit of heat shrink.

Could also be an issue with the switch itself. Behind the button is a little micro switch. That went bad on mine and I replaced it with an off the shelf micro switch from an electronics supplier.

There's a fly lead (about 25cm) from the switch to a green multi-plug which you can disconnect and test the switch without removing it from the car.

I can post a few photos if it helps but it's straightforward.

Hello Cafcpete,
I have been having no end of trouble with my boot release mechanism on my 1996 X300 LWB Sovereign. Firstly I was forced to drill a small hole to enable me to insert a small screwdriver to unlock the boot locking mechanism, (this took some courage I can assure you) nonetheless it was a successful solution. Initially I thought the boot release solenoid was defective, so I have ordered a replacement ex UK which should arrive shortly. In preparation to install the replacement solenoid I removed the old solenoid together with the metal arm which hooks onto the locking mechanism inside the boot compartment, I noticed that there was also a small micro switch fitted to the wiring loom. It made me think that perhaps the microswitch is defective as I have not been able to unlock the boot with the keys, the internal switch on dash or the cover plate button which activates the micro switch. Feeling quite proud of myself with a sense of finally making same headway I read your thread where you state that boot failure to open is likely to be a broken wire in the loom on the right hand side of the boot hinge.
Thank you so much for identifying this fault as I now feel that this is probably my real problem and not the solenoid or micro switch.

I appreciate the efforts and contribution everyone has made with respect to this issue on the Jaguar Forums site. Heres hoping (fingers crossed) that my boot issue will soon be resolved!

If the key fob and dash switch are working the wiring to the lock is fine. The growler switches in the boot lid fail, but new replacements are available on eBay, and the part is used on x type too. Mildly fiddly job but not difficult.

Thank you Very much Countyjag, That was my original assumption. As I am in the habit of using my key fob to open the boot, I haven't bothered to fix the issue. With more confidence, I will replace the Growler switch as you suggest.
