That brings up a question. Does anyone actually use the trunk release button on the binnacle next to the steering wheel? I've not come across a situation where I thought it would ever be useful. I've never once used it.

 

I use the button on the dash occasionally, but usually only when the button on the boot lid has a temporary glitch and refuses to function. On the "to do" list!!!

 

I comes in handy when it is pi$$ing down rain and you are dropping someone off at the airport.

You just tell them 'goodbye' and let them get the bags out of the boot.

For whatever odd reason, it seems to be useful at the airport. Wet or dry. Maybe it's the psychological benefit of knowing that you really are doing it as fast as possible while other vehicles are in line waiting for a chance to swoop into the curb lane.

Any other time it's the trunk lid button, and occasionally the key just to make sure it still works and give it some exercise.

I am *not* going to be one of those people trying to figure out how to get into the trunk with a dead battery!

 

I can totally see how someone who hadn't read the owner's manual (or otherwise didn't know) would be unaware that the rear "growler" was even a button at all.

I've used the rear button as a curiosity, and have used the dash button a bit too. I can see more use for the dash button since the remote will gladly open the trunk after three presses, even if you didn't mean to!

I'm still training myself to use the key once/mo or so to make sure that is working. Otherwise - it is the dash-button 3-4 times/week when I get home with a bootload of groceries, and the key-FOB 5 times/week when leaving work to load the laptop and lunch cooler(come to think of it, 3-4 more FOB openings to load the groceries.) The growler button on odd occasions when the key FOB refuses to unlock ANYTHING or when otherwise just piddling around the shop and need the boot open or other occasional walk-up opening requirements.

 

For me the dash button is the "wife button" as in looking in the rear view mirror and seeing my wife approaching the car loaded down with purchases. Thankfully this is groceries most of the time.

For the first few years I owned the car wiring problems meant the button(s) didn't function and I had to use the key pretty much exclusively; finally fixed it and enjoying the options !

 

I am using the button next to the dash, usually when someone who has to get something from the boot isn't able to find how to open it.

 

I use the dash button all the time now that the trunk/boot button stopped working recently and the fob puts the driver seat so far back that i could sleep in it

 

Wouldn't be especially nice if the lid actually lifted when you pressed any of the buttons. My Cadillac and Crown Vic both did that, and it was nice.
