My brake switch finally failed recently so thought I'd share a few pics how to get this fixed. Switch itself is hidden deep in the foot well, everything can be removed by using the little spanner from under bonnet tool kit and a screwdriver. The steering column bottom plastics have to come off first, just 4 screws, then remove bottom vent plastics(one nut) and you should be able to see the switch at the point, its secured with a single nut/bolt to the bottom of it and away it goes.
On removal the outer switch turned out faulty, this is theoretically for cruise control but it caused all sorts of issues with clicking relays and gear lever not releasing correctly while driving. The inner one controls the brake lights and gear level release.
Anyway, quick look on eBay, new switch ordered, was only £2.50 delivered, fits perfectly. All fitted in 15 minutes and working correctly again.
Only thing to remember is to check for correct pinout, I had to slightly modify mine, as normally closed and normally open pins were switched over on the new switch.
