Default Breather on inlet manifold

What is this pipe for and should it be a firm tight fit in the manifold? It can't drop out but it can rattle.

Thanks

Mike

Thank you.

Does it matter that it's loose? Seems to me it should be an air tight fit and I suspect it's not. I know there's a non return valve in the line but that won't stop a leak if the fitment into the manifold is loose.

It's loose . Maybe a piece cut them off so he is maybe better stuck.

Thanks, I shall investigate.
Looks like it's this part and probably the O-ring has broken up making it loose.

NBC3184AA

I have to say my first reaction is to try and seal the wretched thing rather than fanny about replacing it. But I doubt that it's a good plan.

Mike, I had the same trouble with the same item. They are a quick release coupling. I cannot find the part receipts at this moment, but I ordered one from Grand Touring here in Toronto and was blasted with a $28 bill. I thought this was too much and was sure I'd seen this before on another Jag model. Sure enough it's the same part as used on the S type and so I ordered one of those at $16. Even the parts people, Gold Certified Parts Professionals, didn't realise it. Given an hour or so I will find the relevant part numbers.

There is also another one of these parts in between the throttle body and the manifold and its normally the rubber "O" ring that perishes and breaks. Unfortunately the plastic carrier is normally as brittle and breaks trying to remove it. If I remember the only people that have this particular "O" ring is available separately are Barretts or Coventry West. I could be wrong, but again give me time as I have recorded it somewhere. Hope this was helpful.

To remove this pipe easily, push down on the plastic outer ring and then pull the pipe.

Great, thanks. The car runs fine but it can't be right that the pipe is a loose fit so I'd rather fix it. Hopefully David Manners will have the part(s).

The only part you need is possibly the "O" ring, but normally the Plastic ring breaks as well. If you can source the "O" ring all the better, but it really is an odd size If you do buy the part NBC3184AA it comes complete with the brass ferule. Just don't bother trying to fit this, it's a pain and no point.
