Cam cover gasket, sealer needed?
I need to replace the gasket for the cam cover and was wondering what, if any gasket sealer should be used.
The new gasket appears to have locating ribs but I've not done this model Jag gasket before, so any advice would be much appreciated.
She's a '97 XJ6L to be specific.
Thanks!

There's really only tight corners at the two rear cam half-moons. Use a bit of RTV there in the tight bits. Otherwise just use a small amount of black oil rated RTV just to keep the gasket in the cam cover while you install it.
When you put some sealant in the corners of the " D " shape machining cut out in the rear edge run your finger along the rear edge before tightening down to ensure the " D " s not fall out of place to leak where you wouldn't think to look
The O - rinngs for the coil wells can probably take some sealant on the cover side as the seat may be a grainy textured
There is a torque pattern in a TSB
