Possible EMS relay fault, RF corner of engine bay
Possible fuel pump fault
" " " relay fault (fusebox in boot)
" " " link lead fault (inside fuel tank)

If I was working on the car, I'd be road testing it with a fuel pressure gauge taped to the windscreen.

If the engine shuts right off, tach drops to zero, and will usually start right back up...suspect EMS relay fault.

2nd the fuel pressure test.. have had several times.. the fuel pressure drops due to the fuel pump relay pin in the ecm connector.. corroded.. remove the passenger kick panel.. then 2 ..8mm bolts.. the ecm comes out.. check the connector pins.. .. also fuel pumps fail as well.. or inner fuel line in the tank from pump starts to come off..

I'm having the same problem with my 2000 XJ8! The first time it happened I took it in. They didn't find anything wrong and it didn't do it again until about three months later. Now I don't know what to do?

It goes into engine failsafe mode and shows trac not available, then it clears itself up for a while, then act-up again.

do you know if they did the same diagnosis testing mentioned in this thread? If not, make sure a mechanic does. Do you have the same code? Those codes lead down many different paths.

Also, post your symptoms in the XJ8 and XJR section for more assistance. The Gen Tech forum is for stuff that might go across all platforms, model years and models.
