Car randomly dies?
I have a '96 Jaguar XJ6 with 150k miles.
I haven't had any problems with it, however, a few weeks ago, I was at a stop light.
-Once it turned green, my car died. I turned it off and on, and it ran fine after that.
-A week ago after I finished pumping gas my car died as I was going to go into traffic.
-Today as I was about to merge into the freeway, it died again, while I was waiting at the light.
It seems like it mainly dies when I'm not giving the car any gas. What could be the cause of this?

It could be a variety of things, but from your description, it does sound as though it's being starved of fuel. Therefore, start with the simple things and first on the list for me, would be the fuel filter. Located in the rear wheel arch, not sure which side, depending on RHD or LHD, but it migt have become clogged up over time.check also for any pinched/damaged fuel lines while you're at it. After that, you start getting into more complicated territory. Let us know how you get on and hope this helps.

I was having this problem also after I bought my x300. First I thought it was my fuel pump but after a bit I realized that it was only cutting off during low speed idles and never when I was on the highway or at higher rpms than 2k, which is usually the case with fuel pumps. My dad told me he figured it out and it was the IAC valve or idle position sensor which would occasionally get stuck and shut the car off.
Since my moms got an 97 x330 (xj6 L?), we swapped it out and everything seemed to work fine.

YEP, fuel filter VERY high on my list also, and it is on the RHR, just inside the wheel arch area, and a pain to get at the first time. It should be changed every few years (mine is every 3 years).
The build up of "goo" in the throttle body, thus blocking the air gap will also have that effect. Remove the bellows thing and wipe it all out with a solvent soaked rag.
Continuing on from the "goo" is that "goo" runs down the throttle shaft, thanks to gravity, and ends up inside the TPS (throttle position sensor). Some have had success with cleaning it with PP contact cleaner, I have, and others have had NO success. Since I do the oil filter change from the top, that bellows is removed regularly, and I simply wipe the throttle body out each time, simple for me.
The ICV (idle control valve), or stepper motor as some call them, also appears on here from time to time, as does the EGR (exhaust gas recirculator) valve. I have never had the ICV out of mine, and we dont have EGR, so I am no help there.
