Parts compatability?

Parts compatability?
So, rather than trawling through a myriad of parts catalogues, with the infinite variety of part numbers, relative to vin codes, relative to model, year and what I had for breakfast, I thought I might manage to shorten the search (and extend my life possibly) by asking the various oracles here.
I have a 1997 x300 3.2 Sovereign, which is something of a project/donor car. My daily driver is a 1996 x300 4.0 Sovereign. What main parts are interchangable, in the event I part out the 3.2 ? I'm thinking about ECU, MAF (or AFM?) Throttle Body, Diff, Transmission. Anything I might be missing in relation to the different engine sizes that might cause a problem?
Many thanks in advance.

AHA.
The 4 ltr has an electronic controlled transmission, and the 3.2ltr is cable controlled, and are different, so NO use.
The ECU is different, I have NO specs, but common sense tells me the fueling maps alone would be differenet for 4ltr versus 3.2ltr.
The MAF, NO idea, may be the same.
Power steer pump, same.
Alternator, same.
Starter motor, same.
Throttle body, MAYBE, measure the disc diameter of each, I reckon the same. the TPS MAYBE. My 3.2 has a 3 wire TPS, not sure how many on the 4ltr?.
Crank angle sensor, same.
Cam angle sensor, same.
Radiator, same.
Electric fans, same.
HEAPS of goodies in the donor that would be nice on the shelf for that eventual "rainy day".

Wow, that's a great list Grant. If it's ok to mention another forum, there's an interesting tool called Parts Interchange at jag-lovers.org: The Jag-lovers Parts Interchange Guide. I'm not sure how exhaustive the database is, but it does cover multiple models and new info can be added.

Mmmmm, been there, it is OK, but MY OPINION, it gets messy last time I looked.
Adding to that list:
Brakes, same.
Shockers/springs, same
Steering rack and associated bits, same.
Diff, physically the same, BUT, the ratio's will be different, and the 4ltr MAY?? be an LSD, where the 3.2l is an open diff.
Body panels/trim/etc, same.
Fuel tank/pump/filter/etc, same.
There are many other things that will swap over, just depends how serious you want to strip the donor car.

Thanks
Many thanks for the wealth of info Grant. It's pretty much as I'd expected with a lot of common parts, but unfortunately, not so with the "biggies". Either way, a slight knock could require a door, wing, bonnet, grill, headlamps etc. which would be prohibitively expensive, so it's nice to know I have them all "in stock", not to mention windows, motors, pumps etc. Didn't realise the transmissions were so radically different though. I suspected the ratio might have been different and thought the same about the diff.
Thanks again!
Thanks again!

seat compatibility
Does anyone if the seat backs from a VDP (with the wood trays) will swap DIRECTLY over to a non-VDP model of the same model type (i.e. X300 VDP to a X300 non-VDP)? It seems that the seat backs on my non-VDP just snap in place, and was just wondering if the VDP seat backs are the same (there's a '95 VDP at the local pick and pull, might go have a look this Saturday).
