Default car thinks it has an open door

The title says it all. I get the door open chirp when locking the car.

I'm stumped. I heard of a micro-switch in the door latch that can fail. Don't know where the switch is and I have looked. I have the door apart now.

Many thanks for any help.

It's been a years but as I recall you'll have to remove the latch to gain access to (or even see) the micro switch.

Cheers

Doug. Do you mean the actual locking mechanism on the end of the door or the external handle? And is the micro-switch replaceable? If so where can I get one?

Many thanks.

Another question. Is the switch normally open or closed? And can I just jump it and leave it alone?

The ERROR chirp can be the Boot Lid or The Doors!!
You need to determine which switch has failed before you start jumping wires and pulling panels.

I guess you could 'jump' each one until you don't get an ERROR anymore?

Hi bliving7,

I would be happy to provide a link to the Electrical Guide for your car if you'll tell us the year and model.

Cheers,

Don

You can download the 1995 XJ Electrical Guide at the link below, courtesy of Gus and his website, jagrepair.com:

http://www.jagrepair.com/images/Auto.../jagxj1995.pdf

You might start with Figure 15.1 (pdf page 157), which shows the circuit for Central Locking.

Cheers,

Don

Resolved???? At least for now. But I'm hopeful.

Yesterday pm I disconnected the battery and left it for 24 hours. I reconnected it this pm. Then I put the ignition key in the driver's door lock and locked the door. Then unlocked it. Got in the car, closed the door, and started the engine.

All was back to normal???? I don't really understand but am very thankful.

Also, many thanks to the people who replied to my post and helped.

I've found sometimes just removing and replacing the related fuse (located in the trunk fuse box) has sometimes solved door/memory/programming issues. My guess is that it sometimes may need a reset due to an electrical glitch.

I recently decided to replace the security/locking computer. That did the trick. Crazy.
