car thinks key is still in the ignition - RESOLVED
Hi. I am new to this and have not techical. I have had my 96 VDP for 6 years now and LOVE IT. However, little things are now beginning to go funky. The latest is that the car beeps when I open the driver's door. I finally realized that my car thinks the car is still in the ignition. Is there any easy fix to this?

Welcome to the forum. You should stop by our New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum and introduce yourself.
I've moved your post from the X350 XJ section to the X300 XJ section, this is the correct section for your car.
Is there a little flap which covers the key slot when you take the key out? It's happened on a few newer cars that this flap gets stuck & the car still thinks the key is in the ignition.
Good luck with it.

I will look for the flap - thank you for the ideas. I was nervous about joining this group because other than actually owning my car, I really know nothing about it and depend on my mechanic for everything. I think it's time I learnt more about my car and I think this group will be just the ticket to help me achieve that knowledge.

There is some kind of magical stuff in a spray can, which is sold by locksmiths, at a handsome price, but the name escapes me.
I would be reluctant to use anything else, but even then I am not sure what to use in any "electronic" lock, where voltages are applied aside from the ignition circuit.

I have been warned by a UK locksmith who does a lot of Jaguar keys that the use of a newer replacement key with rough edges tends to sharpen the edge of that little flap in the lock cylinder.
It is best to use the original key and keep the newer key as a spare. This is why most European car keys are brass as opposed to steel.
The brass means the key wears rather than the lock cylinder. Much cheaper to replace a key than a lock cylinder.
