Default Car trying to communicate

The immobilizer on my 1995 XJR (Rose, RHD) has been neutralized by way of a specially written ECU, but I have yet to re-programme the key fobs (314 MHz, frequency peculiar to Hong Kong) for entry and lock by remote. Although the car still starts, locks and unlocks well with the original Tibbe key, soon after the engine fires up there is short spell of regular beeping sound for about five seconds, which is repeated some 10 seconds later, but while it happens and thereafter all is normal. Rose is still under recovery and partial restoration so my mechanic and I do not want to temper with the original, on-car security settings just yet. However, for the time being I would love to know if there is anyone out there who has experience hearing, interpreting and managing such audio signals from the car.

The security system should operate separately from the ECU, as North American spec cars didn't have the imobilizer. Have you tried going through the procedure to program the remotes to the car and using them to unlock the car?

Is the frequency 314 or 315? The 1995 Canadian cars had 315 MHz remotes. There are other cars using that frequency and their remotes can be programmed to the Jaguar.

No, the mechanic does not wish to tackle the key remotes at this stage. He does not want any gremlins to emerge when Rose is still under critical recovery procedures. It is 314 MHz not 315 as found in other regions.

Such transmitters peculiar to Hong Kong or liked models (possibly Japan) are still available from Jaguar Classic Parts, selling for GBP36 which is far cheaper than the 433 and 315 versions.

My car played me a short musical interlude once. 5 or 6 six notes. A very short melody. I have no idea why it happened. . Sounded like from the alarm system but still different ...

Possibly the "Clean tape head" or "clean aerial" reminder from the entertainment center.

It would be nice to first understand what those signals really mean (from the entertainment system???), and tackle the issue at source, only when such attempts fail and the signals are believed to be not matters of concern that we take the brutal step to cut the noise, and only if the noise comes from device or devices other than the car horn or security system.

Sorry...I have to tell you to look it up in the manual...I simply don't recall. There is some sequence of button-presses on the radio head unit that will reveal the settings, and you can turn them off. IIRC, there are either 5 or 7 adjustable settings on that menu; tape-head cleaning reminder and aerial-clean reminder being two of them.

Press and hold the on/off button for 2 seconds and then using the same button, cycle through the options. I think.

Thanks both, and interesting; worth experimenting at some stage.

The beeping sound has been deciphered!

A bit of history. Car emitted beeping sounds five times on start up, and periodically whilst driving. It went away for a few weeks but came back recently. In fixing my air bag dash light, I read Brendan's "Air Bag Diagnostics for Dummies" where on Page 3 it says "....... 5. If there s a fault with the indicator light circuit, and there is also a fault with the Air Bag system, the Air Bag ECU will emit 5 beeps every 30 minutes while the car is being driven." I have replaced the front right airbag impact sensor and it sorted the air bag dash light, but the beeping sound is still there. This would suggest some potential faults with the indicator light circuit, as the light bulb icon on the dash does come up momentarily recently.
