Console rear seat A/C vent, pitiful air volume normal?
Am wondering if everyone's rear seating area console A/C vent blows a pitifully small volume?
I was repairing my vent vanes today and was taking a close look at the air supply ducts that wrap around the console storage well and they aren't very large, and in fact are fairly pinched, so maybe the low volume is normal. But I thought I'd see what others have observed.
To be fair, the rear console vents in our Honda Pilot are similarly weak, and while the rear vents in my Riviera console are more reasonably strong they still are not very impressive.
None are nearly as powerful as the dash vents. Again, maybe that is just normal
What about your rear vent, is it a leaf blower, gentle breeze or baby's breath?
If some of yours are nearly as powerful as the dash vents, I guess the followup question would be to discover what duct or damper upstream could be limiting the flow in cases like mine where the volume is so poor.

My '96 XJ12 seems to have very poor rear airflow, while my '92 XJ6 (XJ40) has very decent airflow.
My grandfather's '97 Eldorado actually has a separate blower motor in the center console that provides rear airflow very similar to that which the front-seat passenger would receive on medium blower speeds. A thoughtful touch, but at the expense of center-console storage space.

I have only sat in the back a couple of times for longer drives but it seemed like the flow was ok, but certainly not as forceful as in the front. You should be able to feel it though.
It probably doesn't help by having the interior temperature sensor under the steering wheel.
One thing I found is to have the front center vents blow cold straight to the back, that usually give them a bit extra.
I have to repair the vanes on my rear vents. Those things are fiddly.
