Lightbulb constant Code P0300

1995 XJ6 VDP

I have a constant code P0300

Car starts beautifully

Car iddles beautifully 750 RPM

When hot between 2000 and 2500 RPM sometimes the engine is "holding" its power but if I step on it it goes superbly well.

I have replaced the coils,

I have switched the coils from cyl 1 to 2, to 3 and so on

Still get the code P0300

Any idea about this?

Ideas are welcomed

Claude

I had a customer car for a misfire code and found AC Delco plugs installed.
I replaced and moved a few coils but the problem was the plugs!!!!

I replaced with Champion RC12YC and fault was fixed.

Sometime it is an easy fix???

Saturday noon

Dear Bob,

Went to get the Champion's

Found 6 Autolite installed in the engine with a gap as wide as the Golden Gate Bridge but all nice, clean and greyish.

Installed the Champion's

Car seems to be running better and iddling dropped down from 800 to about 650.

But, but code P0300 is still there

I do have 2 extra coils and I am going to play "musical chairs" with them and see if I can get rid of that code or not.

Will let you know again.

Hi again,

After playing musical chairs with the coils (I have 8 of them in total) it is still the infamous code P0300 but I am using only a simple small OBDII

Car is starting perfectly
Car is iddling perfectly cold or hot
car is running more or less OK excepted with that "witholding" feeling between 2000 and 2500 RPM, it feels like it would be missing gas but if I step on it no problem.

Should I look in the direction of the intake and injection/injectors area ?

Any idea is most welcomed.

Thanks

Claude

P.S. Gas mlileage is very bad

Any of the coil wires or connectors look damaged? And I think I heard the #5 and #6 connectors are often accidentally attached to the wrong coils.

Dear Doug,

Thanks for pitching in.

Obviously I have looked into this and tested each coil, one by one, removing the wire and making the engine run on 5

Then I have checked visually at night too (like you had suggested back in May)

I know I have only a simple OBDII tester and most probably a more sophisticated one would give me more info.

But as said yesterday I am going to (try) to investigate toward the fuel delivery.

Unfortunately I can do anything with good old Webers or a good old Ferrari 12 cyl or an old Carrera 4 cams or an old XK 150S to rebuilt from A to Z but all this electronic junk leaves me paralyzed

Even the official Jaguar books are worthless. NOBODY can tell me (neither the Jag books) what triggers the interior lights when you open the driver's door or where is (if any) the memory module for the seat/steering wheel/outer mirror.

I am quite sure that most Jag dealers don't even know themselves neither.

Thanks agian for your input. I really appreciate it

Are you looking for the button that controls these items or the switches? I know of a few wiring diagrams that are pretty vague on location but a tiny bit helpful, although you have to do some code breaking. Also, I recently did fuel injectors because I thought one was bad, possibly causing my misfire, and later found out I had the coils hooked up backward on #5 and #6. The fuel injectors were not as expensive as I had feared, costing 179 USD rebuilt off eBay, and they definitely work. Don't know if this makes the operation less scary, but at least you have a figure to go by??

Good, because I may need your help. I take care of a slew of old cars like that.....and am often lost.

Each door latch has it's own miniature switch. You have to remove the latch, as I recall, to even see it. It's roughly .625" square with a tiny plunger button.

What problem are you having?

or where is (if any) the memory module for the seat/steering wheel/outer mirror.

Don't take mine as the final word but I don't there is a stand-alone "memory module". I think the memory storage function is incorporated into the driver's door switchpack .
