Dash Lights (95 XJ6)

Dash Lights (95 XJ6)
While driving last night, my dash lights (not warning lights) on my 95 XJ6 suddenly went out and then back on. Later, they would flicker when I turned on the switch (and later stayed on when I kept turning the switch on/off). I am assuming the switch is going bad??? Any ideas? If it is the switch, how is it removed? It seems to be made into the instrument panel with the fog lights, etc.

Coils on both post issues causing dirty electricity into wires ? Recommend reading the more experienced Aholbro1's post reply linked below .

RIchard, was it just the illumination? Or did the dials bounce around too? Parker's correct that is a reliable indication of ignition coil failure. However, the fact your illumination remained lit after turning the switch off doesn't square with the coil failure.
I believe I recall a similar post in here within the last year or so that turned out to be a bad switch. It is not a "switch" in the classic sense of the word - once you get the lower panel off, underneath the fog-switches, you'll find the headlight switch is a circuit board mounted up in there. I've no idea how to get it out. My son broke the knob on mine when learning to drive and at that point I became aware that the knobs are no longer available. I don't recall if the actual switches are available or not. I found a knob on eBay complete with switch for $35-$40 and was going to change it out. Once I got the panel off, poked around a bit...determined that the shaft was intact, and only the knob was knackered, I concluded, "Screw it, I'll use the new knob!"
Parker (Lady P) is your man for diagnosing the flow of trons through that switch.
I'll start the conversation by asking a couple more questions:
The dash lights remained on - what about the other illumination that is supposed to come on in the first switch position? The marker lights outside? Did the headlights go off? I expect they did when you turned the key off, but when you were fiddling with the switch, if the key was on - Headlights working properly?
Finally, when you had this flickering dash....what was happening with the illumination on the center stack and the door switch panels? Flickering? Off? on steady?

Recommend sticking to what Aholbro1 says for measuring as proof ( as something to observe ) dirty electricity is hard without the correct test equipment . Inference is about your only tool in the field . I did once have a bad battery charger that corrupted the data bus ( ELM327 ) and you could observe bad trons in the cars voltage gauge as a fast flicker . I have seen alot of fascia circuit boards on Ebay for some reason as an example of inference that they may be an issue . Which knob are we referring to ?
Jaguar XJ6 Illumination Control Module and FUSES
Editing / Researching as my Lady P has the lower kick panel and column still apart , but she's outside and I'm afraid of the dark , it skeeeeeers me

Your knob looks funny/strange to me. I'm referring to the one on the left (LHD) of the IP that has a little tail on it, kind of like a Q, used to turn the headlights on.
Edit: Here's what I'm referring to:
1990-1994 JAGUAR XJ6 XJ6L VdP HEADLIGHT SWITCH TURNS LIGHTS ON and off knob | eBay
1995-1997 JAGUAR XJ6 XJ6L VdP HEADLIGHT SWITCH TURNS LIGHTS ON and off knob | eBay
Looks like from your pics I didn't dig deep enough; the circuit board is apparently part of the fog light panel and separate and distinct from the headlight switch!

It's light outside so I can go out and look at it after I have my bowl of Fruit Loops first . My headight switch knob was always missing . Strange souvenir if that was the case . Benzjag , is this the switch you are referring to ? Going to stripe the clearcoat off the dimple style wheels today to get to bare metal .

What a pain to get the switch out . It is a 15 size but is such a shallow bolt head . Not what I'll be putting back in . It is a 4 wire with a short pigtail to a easy connector . I don't see it on the print yet . Lorlin-UK is the only label on the switch as I have it out now ( using large medical forcepts ) is a open can so you should be able to get some spray inside , maybe without removing it if you really plaster it. There's the bunny , it is Jaguar part # LNA6005AA . I would get a picture but my Windows 10 is in limp mode , someday they will fix Windows 10 ?

Here is a data sheet from Lorlin below : looks like the 2 pole 6 way 30 degree indexing version or CKFE ___ part number
I did notice alot of corrosion on the switch board ( with the 3 other switches ) connector at the soldier points , not for the switch in question ( on the bottom or backside in pic ) but the 16 pin connector to the rest of the car . Now back to those Froot Loops .
