Default Dash wood kits...

I found a great place online (hopefully) for some replacement wood for Jags.
http://www.mojoparts.com/jaguar-xj6-...-trim-kit.html
$171 seems like a good deal to me, but has anyone bought anything through them? If so how was the quality?
I am looking to replace my wood with a darker stained wood, which I think would look nice with the Pearlescent Green I have on mine, but I was wondering if anyone knows where I can get the wood that the gages are located at.

Thanks

Look on ebay for the gauge cluster wood. I saw a brit selling the whole unit (incl. gauges) for a very reasonable price. Unfortunately he wouldn't separate the wood veneer, and shipping to NZ was going to cost a small fortune so I gave up.

Still, the unit isn't too big and shipping to normal countrys shouldn't be too much...

This place does some amazing work, but I'm guessing the prices will be very high:

I've heard good things about britishautowood.com , but they are quite expensive.

Do not, not, go for a plastic stick on set up. They look horrible when installed, and will peel eventually. I've heard, and seen some bad stuff.

Out of curiosity, how hard would it be to remove the panels, sand them down, stain the veneers and do the whole process myself? My father has all the equipment for it and quite possibly the skills to help me do it. I would love to go with a darker wood stain to compliment the green paint job.

I don't know about that. Removing the panels is dead easy, but removing the existing coating would not be easy. It's not really a varnish, like that in the older jags. It looks like some kind of thick plastic coating. I'm not sure how thick the wood veneer is either.

If your father knows about finishing wood, have him look at it. I've been meaning to have my grandfather have a go at mine, but I wouldn't be able to stand driving around without the wood in place.

On a side note, the wood around the instrument cluster isn't. Rather, it's plastic.

Are the panels glued on?

Define "panel". If you mean what I think you mean, no. Most will "pry" off, while the door panels come off with a screw, and sliding them out. The "ski slope", and ash tray are a bit more difficult, but come out beginning with some screws in the center console.

I am looking for a wood knob myself. Do you know what kind of wood we would be looking for. I saw some good knobs on ebay, but I am not too sure about the colour.

Did you end up ordering the wood panels?

I am not fond of whole wood steering wheels but two tones are great for me
Those guys are great at their products , they are specialized at wood trims for fancy British cars

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of the whole wood steering wheels. A good bit expensive too.

I stand corrected, but if that includes the airbag and whole setup, then I'll have to call it acceptable, but not recommended.
