Decklid dashboard light intermittently comes on, then off. With lid closed.
Hi!
my car is now my daily ride, (6 miles each way), since I spun around my 87 BMW on wet pavement (stupid), and ripped up my radiator support, so that has to wait for spring.
but I read all the new posts, and am grateful for them.
question: how does the car sense an open decklid? I don’t see a contact switch anywhere. The light has a mind of its own, and my doorlocks work when I take the car out of Park, but pop open sometimes when I try to lock them with the button in the front door.
I still have no alarm fob, so still trying to lock the door with the key, which only works once in a while. I’m thinking even if I got a used fob, it would have to be programmed by a dealer, so $$$ not right now.
wondering if that stops my doors from locking with the key.
thank you,
tom
The trunk/boot lid micro is part of the latch and sometimes the little plastic operating rod beaks off, or the switch needs to be lubed, giving you the indications you have.
If the switch gives a faulty ‘open’ signal then the car won’t centrally lock and the trunk/boot light will remain on.
And if the trunk switch pops to "open trunk" when the car is locked and armed, you will get the obnoxious Alarm Mode. Turn the key to ignition ON to stop and reset an active alarm sounding (USA models).
I replaced the rare "trunk latch switch" with a magnetic reed switch mounted along the trunk liner. It works just fine.
Remotes for these cars do not need programming from a dealer. A dealer will not know what to do with one of these. Programming is DIY. The hard part is finding a good remote.
Watch out for slippery roads, the X300 can get away from you too. Although its bulk helps with traction. Hope the classic Bimmer will be ok.
