Differential output shaft bearing questions

Hi-

Need to do my output shaft bearings. Read the manual, and it doesn’t mention removing the rear road springs, or taking off the big triangle plate. The manual implies this is as simple as taking the rear wheels off, unbolting the driveshafts, and unbolting the shaft assembly to pull it out. Having worked on older Jaguars all my life that sounds too simple... although the X305 has surprised me how well thought it some parts are.

Hi John,

Your understanding is correct. You just unbolt the axle from the output shaft flange and set or tie the axle aside for clearance, then remove the screws that attach the seal flange to the differential and pull the shaft/bearing/seal assembly out of the diff. The bearing swap is done on the bench. Unfortunately, the large images are still not back up at Jag-Lovers, but my thumbnails and descriptions are still visible at these links:
