X300 Differential rebuild
hey,
I知 a new member here - My name is Johannes and I知 from Germany (sorry for my English)
I want to rebuild the differential from my XJ6 4.0 Sovereign with power-lok Diff. A colleague of mine is gearbox specialist - he knows how to do.
I知 just missing some Datas e.g. pinion depth, backlash...
can someone help me?

The X300 service manual does not give instructions for rebuilding the differential, it says to exchange it as a unit. I have rebuilt the earlier style differential in an XJS, and I found that for pinion depth I could reuse the shim that was originally put in it, as bearings are so accurately manufactured. I did measure it, as I changed the case, and it ended up being the same as what came out.
For backlash, the minimum clearance is 0.004", with a recommended range of 0.006"-0.010". I set mine at 0.007" and it is quiet and smooth. The earlier XJS and XJ6/12 Series III manuals have good instructions for rebuilding those differentials, and the X300 is very similar. You will need the special bearing puller, and a press as the carrier bearings need to come on and off a number of times to adjust the shims to measure the side to side position of the carrier within the case.
The XJ40 and X300 differentials are virtually identical, look at this series of photos and description here: https://forums.jag-lovers.com/t/xj40...-photos/285164
