5R55N Trans Rebuild - 369 miles since Jasper rebuild and Rear Seal Leak
Team,
I had my 5R55N trans in my 00 S Type 4.0 rebuilt by Jasper (good reputable company) back about a year ago to the tune of: $3,500 with a 18 month/18K mile extended warranty.
The car sat in my garage with a fried fuel pump for about a year. I got my Jag going and have put almost 400 miles on it over the past 2 months. I was under the car about 2 weeks ago changing an O2 sensor - no trans fluid leakage. Same goes for when I pulled the car out of the garage after replacing the fuel pumps.
Yesterday, I noticed a pool of trans fluid and brought her into the trans shop. I was told the following today:
* The rear seal is DESIGNED to leak out some transmission fluid.
* The rear seal could be damaged because the car sat for a year - keep in mind this was a total rebuild - everything brand new.
* The shop might want to fill up the trans and clean the area around the rear seal and let me drive around some more and "see what happens".
* The warranty company is yanking me cause the car sat for a year even though I have only put less than 400 miled on this trans since the rebuild.
Needless to say my Cat is staying in the transmission shop until this is 100% rectified.
Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Actually I have rebuilt quite a few turbo 400s and power glides and it's not uncommon for them to seep a bit around a new seal then stop. That's most likely where they get that but leaking a puddle is a different story.
I would assume your up the creek warranty wise. This is why I don't recommend people stock pile parts for projects that will last a while. It happens all the time.

A lot of times guys will buy parts slowly a little at a time and let them sit until they have everything they need to start a project. I have seen time and time again parts that have some sort of defect, issue in the first 100miles or even at start up. But since you have had the parts for a year they are out of warranty and of course if you have a few hundred miles on them many times its a he said she said as far as the warranty is concerned so they defer to you have a one year warranty its been 16 months, sorry its out of warranty.
Sorry it didn't directly relate to your situation but I found it relevant.

The good news out of all of this is they honored the warranty for the transmission and have authorized the replacement of the output shaft seal and a full look over the trans - I am pleasantly surprised.
