Default Differential - Seal or Gasket Not sure?

1996 Jag VandenPlas.
I have a leak in the differential cover. Have been searching for a gasket and cannot seem to find anywhere. Just spoke with an online store rep. He suggested, may be no gasket and differential uses only sealant. Would appreciate if some one can confirm or if you know if a gasket exists, where to buy it. Thanks

Jaguar used HYLOSIL for the rear diff cover.

Thank you for the info on differential. Does this vehicle have a breather that needs to be cleaned. Planning on taking to my mechanic for diff service. Thanks.

Yes, there is a breather on the diff rear cover and cleaning it is a good idea.

If you can't find Hylosil sealant locally, Permatex Ultra Grey rigid RTV sealant is a good option. I used it on our '93 XJ40, which has what is probably the same GKN Salisbury diff as in your car, and the Ultra Grey is still sealing great four years later. It's readily available at most auto parts stores in the U.S.:

Cheers,

Don

You might try rotating the vent stub that is sticking out on the right side to see if the leak stops. I had a leak around the output shaft and did the rotation bit. The leak stopped. Now every time I have a chance on a rack I do that. It always feels a little stiff at first and then loosens up. You can see what the vent looks like by going to a parts catalog on line and search it.
