Default Diving into my Jag headfirst.

Ok. So here's a little background information. I won a 1995 Jaguar XJ6 Vandenplas at an insurance auction. So basically It was totaled I bought it and fixed it. It was hit in the left front corner. Bumper, Hood, Fender, Grille, Headlamps were replaced. I'm trying to fix the car to be my daily driver.

Here's my problem. My instrument cluster (IC) doesn't illuminate. Checked all my fuses.... Good. Checked my IC in a junk Jag I bought for parts the one in that car lit up and so did mine.....Good. Brought dimmer switch from junker to my car no illumination.... chased wires back under driver kick panel and into steering column to find a.....Circuit board. took same circuit board from junker to my car no illumination. BUT!

If I jump the brown powered wired to the blue wire next to it basically bypassing the circut board it get illumination. Am I missing something or do I need to buy or repair (I have a technomancer buddy who works with circuit boards all day long) that lil circuit board?

Please help. I really love the look of the car. I'm a semi-professional body man so I can do the work and I would rather not bring it to a dealer and have them charge me an arm, leg, and my first born just to tell me I didn't hook something up or some bs like that.

Mongril,

I've moved your post from General Tech Help section to X300 section.

Members here with the same model as you have will be able to advise.

I had/have the same problem. I replaced the dash illumination module (the circuit board you've noted) as well as the dimmer switch (which plugs into the same module) but neither made a difference. Through pure chance, I learned that if I tugged on that entire loom of wires under the steering column in multiple direction, the dash would eventually illuminate. So there's a short someplace. I told myself I'd eventually trace the short, but as an impromptu stopgap I wrapped the wire loom around a deck of cards and rubber banned it to keep tension. That was 10 months ago. I know the issue isn't 'officially' solved, but I just have had no motivation to investigate any furthur since I've had no issues with dash lighting since implementing the ghetto fix.

So apply some tension on that lump of wires and see if you too are a candidate for the long term temp fix.

Here is my original post re: the issue: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...-lights-84975/

I don't remember exactly...but recall making a post here about it, so if it can be found it probably specifies - I lost most all of the illumination due to a loose ground wire on the back of the stereo. I know it was everything on the center-stack and I think the door switch-packs..I just don't remember whether instrument cluster remained on or was also out.

Jaguar addressed this years ago and it might be relevant to your situation.

TSB 15-34 might be the one aholbro1 was referring to.

Found it. See post #5 and the pdf.

Wish I could claim something as sophisticated as executing a TSB Bob...but I was just jacking around in there looking for loose wires b/c everything EXCEPT the inst panel was flickering and going off. I truly just stumbled onto the cause..while handling the radio to put it back in its hole, I noted a loose nut on a ring terminal on the back of the case, thought - that ought not be loose and tightened it up. On a whim...I stopped and checked the lights. They worked..I loosened it again, jiggled it, and they started flashing...
