Default Help needed with seat belt removal

I haven't contributed for a few months since I had decided to sell the car. After suffering the usual tyre-kicker's, along with getting instant withdrawal symptoms each time I got an enquiry, I realised I didn't want to part with her. So my initial practical motives have gone out the window and I'm happy to say she is still with me.

With a renewed passion I'm continuing to tweak & improve, as we do, and I want to replace the (frayed) front RH seat belt (i.e. drivers side in our RHD territory). Has anyone removed one before? looks horribly like the seat may need to come out, but I'm wondering if I can undo the torx head bolts at the rear of the seat mounting rail and slide out the bracket holding the lower seat belt anchor.

Any opinions before I start dismantling would be much appreciated!

I'm LHD but just removed the driver's seat...and of course I couldn't get it out until I took the seat belt off of it. I already had all four mounting bolts undone though, so I don't know if you have tool access or not with the chair bolted in-place. Seat belt is fine so I haven't really looked at what it would take to get it out of the bulkhead.

OK OK ..so I got curious and went out to have a look. Again, it's the LH seat from LHD, but I would imagine they are similar. And if so, No, ya can't. It is fixed to the traveling part of the frame and there are rivets involved. Not sure why you want to get the bracket off, though, you can just unbolt the belt from the bracket:

Thanks aholbro1, I think you've answered my question. Great pics too, thank you. I only wanted to remove the bracket if it was able to be detached without removing the seat from the car, and then I would detach the belt from the bracket. With everything in place I couldn't tell if the bracket is fixed to the frame only by the torx bolts or not, but obviously it's not as you say. So it looks like a seat-out job. Did you have any issues removing the seat?

Thinking a bit further, maybe I can undo the seat mountings and shift the seat just enough to get at the belt anchor bolt, without needing to get the seat out. I guess it must be possible since you had to undo the belt anchor before you could get your seat out of the car....

You can get the bolt out without removing the seat, it's a 17mm head and I used a ratchet spanner to loosen it then undid it with my fingers.

Thanks Mike, I'm now feeling more confident that maybe it's not such an onerous job.
cheers,
Tony

Yeah I steered you wrong - it's a hex not a torx. I'm reasonably sure you can find a seat position that will allow access

I'm afraid when I see your posts I have to do the same thing. While trying to fix the headrest I also need to fix my belt buckle. Everything is safe but without seatbelt on it rattles and the sound is starting to annoy me. Though you could also say its a manual way for the car to let me know to wear my seatbelt! ;-)

I really don't want to remove the seat as I have the memory working in perfect order and I am afraid it will ruin my setup with the sensors. Or do I not need to worry about that?

If you really want to unbolt the seat then you do not need to remove it, just tip in toward the centre console to give better access to the bolt.

No need to unplug the motors.

Well the job is now done! Not as difficult as I'd imagined, especially since learning the belt is anchored to the seat frame with a hex head bolt and not a torx head, therefore giving enough room to wield a 17mm open end spanner. No need to undo the seat mountings at all, I just moved the seat fully forward for best access. The rest was straight forward - taking the old belt out and installing the new one took about 45 mins.

I only wish Jag had used a similar hex head fixing for the stalk, that does appear to be a torx head and I reckon the seat would need to be moved to get a torx bit and shifter in. Not a job I need to do yet, but I know the buckles are a common weak point!

Anyway thanks for your help on the belt guys, much appreciated.

Cheers,
Tony.
