Yes it was the AJ6 I did make a paper gasket just to be sure to be sure.
Unfortunately I did not do the bolts up quite tight enough and loaned the car to my brother, it started to leak, I made a new gasket and tightened them up a bit more this time.

There are two gaskets on the UK models, slightly different patterns, gives away which is which. I intended to replace both gaskets alongside the 4 o-rings when I did the job, however I couldn't get the block as it were, to separate into its two pieces, despite attempts with various prying tools, so I just replaced the gasket that sits against the engine block. Any tips? Although to be fair id probably just do the bypass delete as suggested If I tried again.

Probably a BFH would have suggested it was a good idea to separate?

So Lucky with all these good and useful information here about my leakage. Thank you Alhobro1 for your 'powerPoint' and all the others who reacted here. I drive a XJ Sovereign 3.2 L LHD 199, since 17 years. Now I understand what to do. I need four (4) O-rings (CAC5118) + two (2) gaskets. Is that correct ?
But in the manual (
https://www.jaguarclassicparts.com/uk/jaguar-xj-x300-parts/engine/sump-and-oil-delivery-systems/oil-filter-3-2-4-0-litre ) and on the CD-rom of the X300, You can't see/find these (different ?)gaskets. They are not mentioned, neither sketched.

Can someone help me to find these gaskets in the U.K. ? What are the number(s) of the parts ?

Does colleague ALSTER370 know where to find these in England ? Or another British colleague (I live in Belgium) ?

Perhaps at Jaguarclassicparts in Coventry ?
https://www.jaguarclassicparts.com/uk/jaguar-xj-x300-parts/engine/sump-and-oil-delivery-systems/oil-filter-3-2-4-0-litre But i need the parts Number again ...
Please help !
Luc

I bought Viton o-rings. I bought two sizes, 3x19 and 3x20. I bought the 20 because I believe someone used that size on this forum, but I also bought the 19 because it most closely matched the dimensions of the old o-rings on this thread.

Perhaps do a search for those sized o-rings?

Oh never mind, I see you’re trying to delete that bypass altogether...

Old thread I know but Is the oil bypass horse shoe also a valve that opens to allow oil to pass if filter becomes blocked ? If this is the case then removing could be a problem one day ? I have removed mine but thinking just now but thinking ........

no the bypass is located in the filter itself. a lot of the later cars have no horseshoe at all.
