Default GM 4L80E

Can anyone confirm that the 4L80E used in the 95-97 XJR is the same transmission used in the later XJS V12's?

Thanks, I'm looking for a good used one. I've received one quote so far on a carry out rebuilt at right around 2000

They do have different part numbers though, I'm not sure what the difference is. Perhaps the torque converter, as the V12 has a higher redline than the XJR.

I would imagine the bell housing would have a different shape?
Are the AJ16 and V12 bells the same?
The bells are not removeable.

As I recall the XJR/A16 used an adapter plate r to mate-up the 4L80E

Cheers

Correct, the XJR uses an adapter plate. The transmission is the 6.0 V12 volt pattern.

I'll check that out. If I go used I'll at least buy a new torque converter anyway.
