Engine preheating

Engine preheating
Hey,
Anyone using or ever used something, that would preheat engine, so when you'd start it, coolant would be already warm?
I'm considering it since coolant needs to be warm for car to switch to LPG, now it's set at 40°C. In winter, I'm guessing that'd mean at least 2-3miles driving on petrol before being able to use LPG, which seems like a waste, especially for driving in town.
EDIT:
Here are some thoughts/calculations:
Let's say it'd be 800watt, that would mean it'd would run for just over 80mins on a 90aH battery, before it'd be dead. But in how much time would that translate in the real world, before battery wouldn't be able to start the car? 50, 60mins?... I'm sure 20 minutes with 800watt would be more that enough to get the coolant to temperature, but I'd love to hear some opinions on this!

It's called a block heater. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Block_heater Standard on most Canadian market cars of all makes. The catalog is here: http://www.phillipsandtemro.com/user...log%281%29.pdf
I recall taking a tour of Brown's Lane in 1998 and seeing boxes stacked beside the assembly line with "Made in Canada" printed on them. As a Canadian I asked what they were and it was block heaters.
