Default Engine swap question

I was wondering why there doesnt seem to be any info on swapping a LS or any other engin into a X300. Arent they very similar to the previous Jag XJ? Is it mechanical or computer/electrical that prevents an easy swap like the 94 and older Jags? I have searched online for anyone that makes a kit to install a simple Chevy small block but no luck. I dont have any plans to swap my engine since it and the trans are working fine but when they do die its an ootion I want to have. Id be swapping in a LS series V8 and a 6 speed manual. If its just the computer stuff I can deal with that with a stand alone engine contro system like Megasquirt. If I could find a kit that has the mounts and stuff like that in it, I can do the mechanical side.

Not aware of a "kit" as such for the AJ16.

The earlier XK engined cars do have such a kit, as you already know.

The X300 runs a Nippon Denso engine management system, and the 4ltr has the electronic transmission.

The life of that engine, if looked after with clean oil, clean fuel, clean air, and fresh coolant, is about 500K miles. It is one of the best 6 cylinder engines Jaguar ever made.

Abuse, and slack caring will shorten it significantly.

Mine is nudging 300K kms, and is a 3.2 ltr version , and as strong as hell.

As you can see I have had Jaguars a very long time, and have NEVER had an engine issue that required an alien engine to be fitted, but I am old and grumpy like that.

Oh I do like the car as it is, it runs and drives well. I wouldnt even try a swap unless the engine had a terminal problem. I know tge electronics/computer would make it harder but I would be using a standalone engine management system. Theres many options available for that in the US. Id be swapping in a six speed manual so tge electronic trans wont matter. I was wonder what the difference was as far as the actual fitting of the engine between the previous XJ(94 and earlier) and the X300. I have found a couple companies that make a kit to swap in a Chevy small block and a LS series engine, and a Ford V8. Ive tead that the syspension parts are similar so I figured the chassis would be close enough that it would work. Do you know what the chassis differences are vetween the pre 95 and tge X300 are?

Check this out:

Jaguar Specialties

I'm fairly sure that Andrew has done V8 conversions into XJ40 and X308, so something for an X300 should be doable. But, as grant says, there is any particular demand because the X300 engine are so good.

Cheers

Not much difference really in the 2.

The X300 just "seems" to ride different.

My daughter has a 1988 XJ40 3.6ltr, and at 410k kms she still drives it on the limit.

The ride between that and the X300 are, as said, different. The shockers are the same, but the springs are different, front and rear. The rear are a different mounting arrangement between the 2, so I have no idea on spring ratings. The fronts are different part numbers, so anyones guess as to what is different.

The engine bay bits are identical as far as mounts/brackets etc are concerned.

The late (1993 on) XJ40 engine bay is different to the earlier, and that was done to fit the 6ltr V12 in the hole, and that engine went into the X300 also, and then the V8 came with the X308, which has the "same" engine bay specs as the X300.

I need a drink.
