Default engine temp, coolant and a/c issues(newbie)

hi.. new to x300,s and have a couple of issues.
firstly the coolant warning light stays on.. ( i see on threads it could be sensor or float )
the temp gauge stays on cold for way too long say 15 -20mins, and sits under 'N'.
A/c runs cold ok, but can not pump hot. and has disturbing whirling noise from the compressor when switched on
anyone seeing a common problem , or just 3 different issues here? all advice appreciated

after reading another interesting thread, I should add the i also have a problem with occasional stalling at say traffic lights, and a miss and splutter and engine check warning light, when under mild acceleration...
gee its sounding like handful, but it drives great and i,m lovin the experience.....
we'll get there..

1) The coolant sensor/float connects from beneath the overflow container and is a simple 'plug-n-twist' unit. Mine is faulty and I've yet to replace it. But replacement is a simple procedure. Unbolt the overflow container, turn upside down, unplug the wire connector, 'twist-n-pull' out the sensor.

2) The CTS (Coolant Temp Sensor) is a common failure item and while I usually don't suggest throwing parts at a problem, since these things are so cheap, it's probably less headache to simply replace than test. It's located atop the upper radiator pipe elbow at the top front of the engine. It has a single wire connector and the sensor simply unscrews. $10 item likely due for replacement in any event.

3) The lack of heat issue is a rather common fault usually caused by an inoperable auxillary water pump. These cars utilise a secondary pump located beneath the brake master cylinder to pump fluid through the heater core, and it will often cease operation after about 10 years. The usual culprit are the motor brushes . Here is a link to replacement/repair. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ot-heat-84596/

4) The Ac Compressor 'Whirling' could be signs of imminent clutch failure.

I agree with everything Suede said....but I'd bump "Thermostat stuck open" ahead of electric water pump failure as the cause of no-heat. Additionally, I'm persuaded that heater core clogging is more prevalent than failed water pump; but perhaps not as common as T-stat sticking open on these...

I would also go with the suspect thermostat diagnosis. It's a simple, inexpensive fix and no harm to do it either way.
