Have to ask "IDS" or "WDS", what is that?

...maybe it will be obvious once answered, and I'm just having a slow brain day

When IDS was launched in 2006 we got IDS 42 on a DVD and WDS 42 on 2 CDs.
Then we got IDS 43 on a DVD and WDS 43 as an update to WDS 42 (second CD).

So for a while THEY WERE THE SAME!!!!!!!!!! (I still have DVD copies of IDS 42 and 43)

Then NO MORE WDS CDs were issued and IDS became the only updated system. (IDS DVD101) (I still have copies of 101,102,& 103)

In reality you can use PDU, WDS or IDS as PDU was the system we used when your car was new. WDS was not even introduced until after your car was made.

Good luck finding an operating PDU.

A good working used Ford or Jaguar WDS is probably easy to find. Jaguar software is readily available from many people on this forum.

They are the instruments and software that match the ECU with the Throttle Position Sensor (throttle adaption), and the oxygen sensors (O2 orientation).

If a new TPS is not adapted, a high idle may result. If new O2 sensors are connected differently than the old ones, a misfire may result. That's why those problems sometimes occur when people swap ECUs.

I imagine those tools do a whole lot more too, but that's the extent of my knowledge on the subject! How am I doing Bob?

Bob

When I went to open the new Jaguar West Chester (PA) in 2004, I suggested they have a PDU. Some Jaguar folks agreed and they took one from the training center in Mahwah. I put a battery in it and it worked great! It came with a whole bin of cables and accessories except the old ABS monster tester. I needed that just a couple times though. I think they still have it and for sure one Jaguar tech there knows how to use it if he needs to.
