Question Escaping Gas fumes/pressure

95 XJ6 Left hand Drive:

Recently when I remove fuel cap to refuel I have a lot of pressure inside tank and it blasts you in the face when you take off cap. Dont have a problem refueling, but pressure just builds in tank. Could this just be a bad/faulty gas cap????

It could be, but on the other hand, I have had other cars, (not Jaguars), with the same symptom and had no bother at all. If you have it the first time on a new car, (new to you), you tend to accept it as a feature, not a bug.

I have to say my XJ6 doesn't do it, nor did my previous Rover 75

I have had the car fro 3 years, and this just started. The car does sit alot, only gets driven maybe 1 to 2 times a week. I believe the gas cap has a pressure release system in it right?

There is an "Evaporative Emission Control Canister which may have become plugged or have a kinked/plugged hose. The gas cap is NOT at fault when you have this issue.
